I am writing to complain about the fact that I have had to pay at least £200 for a job I was quoted £75 for. I asked for a quote to get 8 boxes, each of which weighed approximately 30 kilograms, delivered from Livingston in West Lothian to London. I received several quotes and we identified one driver who could deliver it on the day we requested. The price they agreed was £50 (plus £25 I paid directly to AnyVan). The attached job sheet clearly shows all this i.e. it gives the box size, box weight, how many boxes there are and shows a price of £50 to be paid to the driver. When the driver showed up he was surprised to see what he had to deliver as he had been told it was one box weighing 30 Kg. I told him we had been clear about what we wanted and it is was all contained on the job sheet. I suggested if there was a problem he should discuss it with Any Van. After all the boxes were loaded I confirmed with him that the balance to be paid on delivery was £50 and he agreed this.

Within 10 minutes of leaving me the van driver had contacted my son in London and said he would need more money. A price of £75 was agreed. He arrived at my son’s flat at 7:30am the following morning and demanded £175. My son felt he had no choice other than to pay the bill as at this point the boxes were still in the van.

My concerns fall into 3 categories:
1. As far as I am concerned I filled in the information on your website correctly. I was asked the size of the box, the weight of the box and the number of boxes. I answered all these questions to the best of my ability and the job sheet seems to back this up. If I have not supplied the information you needed I think there is a failing in your system.
2. The van driver seems to think that he was asked to deliver one box weighing 30 Kg despite the fact the job sheet says something different. I think this is a problem between you and him.
3. Once he saw the number of boxes the van driver loaded them into his van and agreed to deliver them for £50. After this he twice renegotiated an increased price with my son. I think this is a very sharp practice. If he had a problem with the price he should have discussed it with me before he took them away. Having loaded them on his van he should have delivered them for the agreed price.
I feel very strongly that I have been put in a very difficult position by the actions of Any Van and the driver you found for me. I received several quotes of less than £200 and I think it is completely unacceptable for somebody to come in with a low price just to get the business and then demand more money before completing the job. I look forward to hearing your response to my concerns.
