My van, a medium wheel base, medium high top transit is equipped with:
- roof bars for extra long items (e.g. ladders)
- internal racking for the secure storage of boxes / tubes
- shackle points/ratchet straps for locking down heavy items (e.g. motorbikes)
- a heavy duty porter's trolley for moving boxes quickly
- padded quilts for the protection of your goods

I'm a biker and therefore familiar and comfortable in handling and safely transporting bikes and scooters. (I also have a ramp for this purpose).
I'm also an extremely practical person having many years' experience as a professional carpenter, and always carry a set of tools and power driver 'just in case' (items that strangely seem to come in handy more than you'd imagine....).
