I accepted the bid and paid the deposit via anyvan. Anyvan retained the deposit as their fee for providing the service.

A couple of days before the delivery date, I was contacted by the driver's partner to say that the van had broken down but they were expecting a part and could collect my things two days later. I was able to be fairly flexible with dates so agreed to this.

The afternoon before the new delivery date, the driver's partner again contacted me to say the van was not ready. I was unable to wait any longer as I had to move out of the premises so cancelled the delivery and asked for the amount of my deposit to be returned by cheque. I had to make other arrangements at very short notice.

Despite several requests, the deposit has not been returned and I am therefore out of pocket through no fault of my own. The driver repeatedly states that I should contact anyvan for the return of the deposit despite the fact that they are clearly entitled to retain the money as thier fee. I have explained clearly and politely on several occasions that he needs to write me a cheque for the amount of the deposit, but he has refused to do so.
