AnyVan, your local home removal expert, has partnered with Phil Spencer, property expert and founder of Move iQ, to bring you a series of podcasts and YouTube videos packed full of knowledge to aid with your home move.

We all know Phil Spencer as the co-presenter of the long-running Channel 4 series Location Location Location, and AnyVan's favourite home makeover show, Love it or List, but he is also an author, businessman and property investor. Phil has become one of the best-known faces on British television and is widely credited as being an expert in all things property.

The team here at AnyVan are all experts in their own home removal fields so we've picked six of them to share their hints and tips, ranging from CEO Angus talking about AnyVan's sustainability, MD Marc offering advice on decluttering to save money on your move, and Consumer Operations Support Manager Hannah letting you know how to avoid the most prolific mistakes. There's also a few more in between that you won't want to miss out on if you're getting ready to move home and start a new chapter in your life.

Sustainable Home Moves

CEO, Angus, brings Phil up to speed on how AnyVan keeps sustainability at the forefront of every move they do.

AnyVan was actually set up to create a more sustainable way of moving. Interestingly, 50% of all vans travel half empty and 25% totally empty. AnyVan was created to solve this very issue; it's huge. We use technology to ensure we use as few vans as possible utilising our drivers return journeys.

Decluttering Your Home

MD, Marc, speaks to Phil about his recent experience on how decluttering can not only save you money but help you start fresh when you move.

Moving less stuff will invariably save money as well as time and stress. Using a spreadsheet, write a moving checklist of everything you own, including your electronics, furniture, clothes and home accessories. Next, sort these belongings into three groups, from this you can box up what you need to pack, take photos of items you want to sell, and then bag up what you can take to a local charity shop.

Mistakes to Avoid When Moving Home

Hannah, Consumer Operations Support Manager, informs Phil on some of the most common mistakes that happen when moving and how to avoid them.

Create a full list of your inventory and then allow yourself roughly 20% more than what you have planned for, so if you think realistically you are going to need 60 boxes, give yourself 75. It’s easy to forget shoes in the closet or boxes in the attic.

Moving House Tips and Hacks

Haydn, Brand & Content Manager, teaches Phil a few packing tips, the best order to pack and how to organise yourself before you move.

Let me show you some of our sustainable ways to pack; wrapping mugs in tea towels, using socks to fill a glass before also wrapping in a tea towel, using tote bags to hold and wrap, toilet roll for wires and using old packaging to save money.
