Cardboard Fun: Half-Term Entertainment for Kids

February 7, 2023

To help parents and kids get creative this half term, AnyVan has turned a hand to toy making, creating a series of unique ‘box toys’ that can be easily built using leftover cardboard boxes.

The cardboard designs, including a car, a plane and a boat, were created after our research indicated that 75% of participants were concerned about finances regarding the current cost-of-living crisis.

The research also revealed that over a quarter of young children under eight years old (27%) are more likely to play with a toy’s packaging than the toy itself, leading to the creation of our box toys idea.

With the step-by-step guides, we hope to offer a fun way to bring hours of entertainment for little ones, all completely free.

With 2,800 house moves booked in February last year and 3,300 predicted for February this year, we expect to see many families packing up and making their move during the half-term break.

With this in mind, box toys are a great, free way for kids to ignite their imagination and explore new ways to have fun with items already in the house.

Angus Elphinstone, CEO and Founder at AnyVan, says: “We know that moving can be a stressful experience for many, with kids at home during the school holidays adding further pressure for parents. We created these Box Toys as a fun and interactive way to entertain kids, helping engage creative minds and providing a great opportunity for parent-child bonding. With the continuing cost of living crisis providing a point of concern for much of the nation, we wanted to provide a simple yet effective solution for families.”

At AnyVan, reducing our impact on the environment has always been top of the agenda, and this project is just another way in which we aim to help families cut down on waste. Further information on our sustainability initiatives can be found here.

How to do it

You can create your very own ‘box toys’ at home using old moving boxes and easy our easy to follow assembly instructions.

*Please note that parental supervision is required when assembling the boxes, and kids should not cut the boxes themselves, as sharp tools are required.
