Top ten places to run a removal company

April 8, 2013

High house prices make the newspapers every day, but they still aren't deterring some people from moving house. New statistics revealed in the UK Moving Trends survey revealed the top ten places in the country with the highest number of movers per population and house removals companies might want to take note!

St Albans in Hertfordshire topped the list by making a whopping 72 per cent more moves per population than the national average, followed by Guildford (68 per cent), Reading (61 per cent), Stevenage (57 per cent), Northampton (56 per cent), Swindon (52 per cent), Salisbury (49 per cent), Southampton (45 per cent), Bath (44 per cent) and Cambridge (44 per cent).

But where are all these people moving to? The survey has found that the South West of England is the most popular place to move to, with Torquay, Truro and Bournemouth taking the top three places. According to the survey, 'the largely coastal towns of Truro, Dorchester and Torquay are still seeing significantly more people moving into the area than out, perhaps as people seek to enjoy the region's relaxed and slower pace of life.'

Rosemary Rogers, director of reallymoving.com, said: "Once again the South West of England proves to be the most popular destination for movers. As in our 2011 report, Newcastle remains at the top of the table for residents moving locally within the region. However, the areas with the most house moves per population focus on the London commuter towns of St Albans, Guildford and Reading. Possibly due to sustained property prices, London remains top of the league table for its residents looking for quotes to move out of the area to regions where the property prices have not been quite so resilient."
