2023’s top driving gadgets and apps

April 19, 2022

Driving; some of us love it, some consider it a necessary evil, and others cannot stand the thought of it. One thing is for sure, though - we are always searching for ways to improve those lengthy long-haul journeys.

Paraphrasing Apple adverts from the late 2000s, there's likely an app for that.

Whether you're a delivery driver, part of a removal company or someone on the road a lot for work, utilising your smartphone and some gadgets can help make a journey safer and more efficient.

As we are in 2023, we have put together some of the best gadgets and apps on the market today:

Waze

A mainstay on any driving app or gadget list, Waze is a necessity at this point. Providing driving directions, a live traffic map and road alerts, Waze is built on a community of over 140 million users and helps notify you of road closures, speed limits, and when you should leave to arrive on time at your destination.

Available for free on Android and iOS: https://www.waze.com/

AirTag

We all know someone who is constantly losing their phone, keys or wallet - frankly, some of us are just forgetful people. Nothing is worse than not being able to find your car keys while rushing to get out the door or to a job. One of the latest releases from Apple, the AirTag, can attach to your valuables, meaning you can keep track of the things that matter most to you from your smartphone. Don't own an iPhone? Why not opt for an equivalent product, such as Tile

Plugshare

We can all do our part in the fight against climate change, and some have already started to take action in the form of the cars and vans they drive. If you're one of those who have switched to an electric vehicle, Plugshare can be a lifesaver. Providing access to the world's largest electric vehicle driver community, users can share and review charging stations so you can find the one closest to you.

Available for free on Android and iOS: https://www.plugshare.com/

Audible

If you're anything like us, a long drive can only get going once you have the right playlist to accompany you. Over 365 million people have an active Spotify account - with other streaming services available, of course - so we're steering clear of making that suggestion here. Instead, why not use this time to listen to some old classics or the latest book that has got everyone talking via an Audible subscription?

Van Vault 2

Thousands across the UK rely on their vehicle to make a living daily. Part of this means valuables are stored in the back of trucks, vans or cars every night. As a result, Break-ins and robberies occur far too often, putting people out of jobs, work and ultimately their homes.

But Van Vault - in particular, the Van Vault 2 - may be the solution.

A Dash Cam

If you're on the road often, statistics suggest you're more at risk of an accident or collision. Whilst we may not have a solution to bad drivers, we can help with accidents. Investing in a good dash cam can protect your licence and no-claims insurance bonus. There are countless on the market with wide-ranging prices, so shop around for what works for you.

There you have it - these apps and gadgets may not make your drive perfect, but they can go a long way towards helping.

Let us know if you have any suggestions or notice something we should have included on this list.

Happy driving!
