How to Safely Move a Hot Tub

October 24, 2013

If you're lucky enough to own a hot tub, we know you won't want to leave it behind when it comes time to moving.

Here is the AnyVan 8 step guide on how to move a hot tub.

Pathway

Create a pathway to allow the hot tub to be moved from its current location to the moving truck with ease. Cut the power to the hot tub off completely, at both the main breaker box as well as on the spa panel on the side of your home. Disconnect all the plugs and store the cords in the hot tub enclosure.

Drain

Disconnect the water course and drain the hot tub. Close off the drain cap at the bottom of the tub and dry the inside of the tub with towels. Then, cover up the hot tub.

Lifting

Now it’s time to move the hot tub! Lift one corner of the hot tub and place and piece of 4x4 lumber underneath. Do this for all four sides of the hot tub.

Moving

Get a hot tub dolly and raise the tub onto its side. Carefully slide the dolly underneath. Make sure you don’t damage the wood while you are attempting to lift the hot tub. Fasten the dolly straps around the hot tub.

Transporting to your new home

You can now start to carefully move the dolly by rolling it up the ramp to the moving truck. Cover the tub with either cardboard or a blanket to protect it whilst it stays in the van. You should then tie the hot tub to the inside of the van so that it doesn’t move or fall during the journey.

Arrival

Once you have reached your new destination, remove the protection you used and gently roll the hot tub off of the truck slowly. Move the dolly to the place you require the hot tub.

Freeing the tub

Carefully loosen the straps and release the dolly straps, you can then pull the straps out of the clasp to free the hot tub. Lift the tub off of the dolly and slowly lower it onto the new pad or levelled ground.

Reconnection

Reconnect the electrical wires to the new spa panel (follow the instructions given by the manufacturer). Finally connect the water source to the tub and turn the water on and full the tub.

It is important to bare in mind, this guide merely shows you the basics. If you are planning on moving a hot tub, be sure to take the necessary safety precautions, as it can be very dangerous job.
