Home//DIY/Top Packing Tips for Moving Homes

Most of us move home at least a few times in our life. It can be a bit of a bore and very time consuming. But, if you follow these tips it won't seem so bad!

Organise according to each room

When packing, make sure that you don't pack things from different rooms into the same box, because that's when you start losing things! By using some sort of signifier, such as a coloured sticker or a label, mark clearly on the boxes, which room the contents belong in. This means that by the time you arrive in your new home, you know exactly where everything goes.

Include an inventory sheet in each box

This is a very simple tip, and all you need is a piece of paper and a pen, but make sure you make the list AS you pack the box, otherwise you'll be rummaging through when you forget which items you have put in the box. As you put each item into the box, write it's description on the sheet of paper and just before you seal the box, place the piece of paper at the top. This will help you see which items are in which box, and will save you a lot of time rummaging around. When you move into a new home, you are often unpacking for a few days at least, this way you can easily see the boxes that you need to unpack first.

Keep it to 1 room per day

Packing can be very overwhelming and stressful. That's why we highly recommend taking a long time to pack up your home. Do it room by room, starting with the least used first, and make sure you only pack up 1 room maximum per day. Leave all the essentials that you need from each room and place them in their own "Essentials" box with their own inventory list. Don't forget, packing up an entire house (especially when you have a young family) can be very difficult and tiresome work, don't leave it to the last minute and you will thank yourself for it.
